Prescriptions

Ordering repeat prescriptions

The easiest ways to order repeat prescriptions are:

  • using your NHS account (through the NHS website or in the NHS App)
  • leaving their prescription requests in the designated boxes along with the appropriate payment (cash only as cheques are no longer accepted). This should be by no later than 1pm everyday.

If you are housebound, your repeat medication can be ordered by contacting us.

Collecting your prescription

Information:

Please remember that whichever system you use, your prescription will normally be ready within 7-10 working days, so you need to allow yourself a few days grace so that you do not run out of medication.

You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.

You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:

  • on the app or website where you order repeat prescriptions
  • at any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions

Dispensary

As a dispensary within general practice we are only allowed to dispense medication for patients who live more than a mile from a pharmacist or who are here temporarily (there are exceptions to this rule, please speak to the dispensary staff for further information).

Delivery service

On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays we offer a delivery service for our patients to collect their medication from:

  • Crackington Haven Community Store
  • Marshgate Post Office
  • Wainhouse Corner Post Office
  • Boscastle Nisa
  • Delabole Spar

Please contact the practice for a consent form. The medication will be delivered back to your chosen delivery point within 7 – 10 working days. Please allow for the practice to be able to order items in for you if required.

Prescriptions are normally delivered by 3pm everyday. Please be aware that this may be delayed slightly depending on traffic and road conditions.

Please check your repeat slip carefully for messages from the dispensary.

Holiday request

Should you require medication early in order to cover a forthcoming holiday, please write a note indicating this on your request slip. The dispensary staff will then be happy to oblige.

Questions about your prescription

If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.

The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.

Medication reviews

Patients who receive repeat prescriptions need to have their medication checked at least annually.

The practice will invite you to make an appointment with the appropriate clinician. Please make your appointment at the earliest opportunity to avoid any delay with your next prescription request.

What to do with old medicines

Take it to the pharmacy you got it from or bring it in to the surgery. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.

About pharmacists

As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:

  • coughs
  • colds
  • sore throats
  • tummy trouble
  • aches and pains

They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.

Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.

Most pharmacies have a private room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff.
